More NTT DoCoMo Symbian handsets announced

NTT DoCoMo have announced a number of new Symbian powered handsets. Most notable among these is the Enterprise focused D702iBCL (manufactured by Mitsubishi). Unlike other FOMA MOAP the phone does not have a camera and is only available in one colour. The usual MOAP / FOMA features are present such as support for iChannels and FlashCast. Read on for more.
The D702iBCL summary specifications are:

• 130 x 47 x 16.8 mm dimensions
  
• 97g
  
• QVGA screen resolution with 262,144 colours
  
• MOAP UI running on Symbian 8.1
  
• FlashCast and iChannel support
  
• 3 hours talk time and 400-550 hours standby time

BCL stands for Business Camera Less.

NTT DoCoMo also recently announced the SO902iWP (manufactured by Sony Ericsson). This is a variant of the S0902i. The WP stands for Water Proof and the phone can be immersed into upto 1 metre of water for 30 minutes.

Ntt DoCoMo have also recently announced some addition to its 7 series lines. Likely Symbian phones (given their manufacturers history) are the D702iF (Mitsubishi), and the SH702iS (Sharp). The D702iF (for female) is targeted at women. It is available in a range of pastel colours (inlcuding pink) and rounded shape means it can be 'opened withuot damaging your finger nails'. The SH702iS is the newest model in the SH702 range. It features a 2.4 inch QCGA screen (.4 inches bigger than the SH702iD) with a privacy button that reduce the angle of view to keep the screen from being seen by prying eyes.

Sony Ericsson p990 It has been a while coming, but the first UIQ 3 phone has now been announced in the shape of the Sony Ericsson P990. For developers it will present a few challenges, migrating to Symbian OS v9.1, but will certainly offer the rewards of its predecessors. The Sony Ericsson P series has been a significant success. While it may have not achieved the raw sales volumes of devices from rivals, such as Nokia, it has shone as a lucrative opportunity for developers. The three P models have consistently out performed every other smartphone in their ability to encourage users to add additional software. .

New Symbian trojan New Symbian trojan Doomboot.A (http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/doomboot_a.shtml) that drops Commwarrior.B (http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/commwarrior_b.shtml) and breaks the phone so that it does not boot anymore. While other trojans have dropped several different Cabir variants, Doomboot.A is the first known trojan that drops Commwarrior. And also the technique used to break the phone is new. What makes Doomboot troubling is the unpleasant combination of Doomboot and Commwarriors effects on the phone. The Doomboot.A causes the phone not to boot anymore and Commwarrior causes so much Bluetooth traffic that the phone will run out of battery in less than one hour. Thus the user who gets his phone infected with Doomboot.A has less than one hour to figure out what is happening and disinfect his phone, or he will lose all data.  .

Handango Buyer Survey Third-party software is a powerful influencer in the decision to purchase a smartphone or handheld, according to a recent Handango survey of mobile content users and their behavior.  The in-depth results from more than 14,000 buyers of mobile downloads revealed that the selection and quality of third-party software had a "strong influence" or "somewhat of an influence" on 69% of the users' decisions to purchase their mobile devices.  The availability of third-party software was also ranked as the third most important influencer in a device buying decision behind only "need in my personal life" and "need in my line of work".  .

Some pics of supposedly new Nseries smartphones have leaked on the net. At least there are 2 upcoming models which looked like using Series 60 platform. Nokia 3G 6280 Mobile Phone Announced Today, at the Nokia Connection events in Helsinki and Singapore, Nokia introduced seven new handsets under the heading "Simple Pleasures." Four new slide phones were revealed, including the 3G-enabled Nokia 6280 for WCDMA markets, and the Nokia 6265, Nokia's most feature-filled CDMA model to date.
